Summer Giving Appeal
Dear Friend of the Arts,
As the buds of Spring blossom into the deep green leaves of Summer and form the lush cool canopy that shades us, we at the Earlville Opera House (EOH) turn to you, our loyal supporters once again. Your financial support is our shade, our protection from the storms of uncertainty in the volatile world of state funding for the arts.
For many years our largest funder has been New York State, either through the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) or more recently through a state budget line item. But for the coming year New York is drastically cutting back its funding for arts organizations across the state, and we are looking at up to a 50% cut in our primary funding source. The biggest impact will be in the reduced monies we will have available to maintain EOH as a 134-year-old Landmark Theater offering community multi-arts programming.
As you know, besides supporting dozens of other arts organizations through our NYSCA re-grant program, we also support touring performing artists through our concert series, support community theatre productions, multiple educational workshops in the arts, and support many visual artists through our three rotating galleries. And now, we begin stabilizing and re-vitalizing Earlville’s only local history museum, the Quincy Square Museum.
Research by AmericansForTheArts.org shows that every dollar spent by patrons of the arts is multiplied many times in direct economic impact, including travel, lodging, and food sales in the area where performances occur. The Earlville Opera House is a major economic driver in the surrounding communities and contributes greatly not only to our culture but to our economy as well, not to mention the livelihoods of the performers who play here. Your dollars for the Opera House go far beyond our little village!
So, we appeal to you now to contribute whatever you are able, to aid us in closing this major funding gap so that we can continue to offer the quality services and programming, and support for the arts in our region, that you have come to expect from us. You can send a one-time gift in any amount, or consider dividing your support into monthly payments, and you can memorialize a loved one with our ‘Save A Seat’ campaign on our website.
