Summer Giving Appeal
Dear Friend of the Arts,
As we continue with our 52nd season of great performances on the 1892 Main Stage and incredible artwork in our galleries and Artisan Gift Shop, we invite you to join us! Our music lineup this year has included the global roots music of Hazmat Modine, Celtic powerhouse Gaelic Storm, British legend Richard Thompson, and we continue with Grammy-awarded bluegrass virtuoso Alison Brown, folk icon John McCutcheon, the amazing Matt Nakoa, and Grammy-awarded, nine-time All-Ireland fiddle champion, Eileen Ivers performing “Joyful Christmas” this December 13.
In addition, we present many local and regional performers in our beautiful outdoor Courtyard and Arts Café, also partnering with groups like Syracuse Vocal Ensemble, Classical Guitar Society of Upstate NY, Buffalo Bills Drumline “Downbeat Percussion”, and Pathfinder Village Bell Ringers to bring quality programming to our area. EOH hosts theatrical productions by our award-winning resident theatre company, Sherburne Music-Theater Society, and delightful recitals by Youth Summer Theatre Camps directed by Jenni Larchar of Jenni’s Music and Jacquie Babcock of The Spot Dance Center. Also, by invitation of the national chapter, EOH became “Make Music Day Central NY” this year, hosting free outdoor events in two counties to celebrate June 21 as a Global Day of Celebration for free public music engagement.
Our three Galleries annually present 12-15 solo exhibitions of regional and national contemporary visual artists in all media and feature an annual exhibition of modern and traditional quilt artists from the region. Along with our event programming, Earlville Opera House manages the Arts in the Community Grants Program, this year awarding $165,000 in NYS regrant funds to non-profit organizations and artists in three counties for cultural initiatives to enrich our region. We also work hard to preserve our National Landmark, this year alone investing over $75k in brick restoration, as well as acquiring more property behind our Courtyard for future preservation and expansion of EOH as a civil asset.
But, we need your help! For many years, our largest funder has been New York State, either through the New York State Council on the Arts, or more recently, through a state budget line item. However, New York State has drastically cut back its funding for direct line-item appropriations for arts groups across the state, leaving EOH to face a 50% cut in our primary funding source for 2025. The biggest impact of these reduced monies will be what we have available to regrant to other arts organizations and artists, as well as how our own staffing and operating capacities will be affected.
So, we appeal to you now to contribute whatever you are able, to help us close this major funding gap so we can continue to offer quality programming and support the arts in our region as you have come to expect from us, all while preserving this iconic building for future cultural use. You can send in a one-time gift in any amount, or consider dividing your support into monthly payments, and you can memorialize a loved one with our ‘Save A Seat’ campaign.
You may go online to www.EarlvilleOperaHouse.com to contribute using the “Support the Arts” button or mail a check or credit card payment to: EOH, PO 111, Earlville, NY 13332. Please know your support causes a ripple effect of healthy economic activity driven by the arts in our small town which extends outward to our region, contributing to the overall betterment and cultural heritage of New York State. We thank you and appreciate you!
With Gratitude and Cheer,
